The Dauphin pocket top series is comprised of 3 top designs that each have excellent balance and are easy to spin. Most tops will average a 10-minute spin time, though I’ve spun some for over 15 minutes.

There are 3 variations of Dauphin. All 3 have an identical core and a groove on the top face of the body that blends with the core. They vary in the number of grooves on the outer diameter
- Dauphin I – One groove on the outer diameter of the body, smooth tapered bottom
- Dauphin II – Two grooves on the outer diameter of the body, smooth tapered bottom
- Dauphin III – Single groove on the bottom surface
This top’s namesake is Dauphin Island, one of the Mississippi-Alabama barrier islands that helps to define the mouth of Mobile Bay. Similarly, the Dauphin top will help to define your top collection, your office décor, or your everyday carry.

I own the Dauphin 1 and 2 models. They are both excellent spinning tops, they are quite big, heavy, elegant, solid, and spin well and for quite a long time. The best, among the two, is model 2, at the level of performance. Model 1 is good, nonetheless. The beauty of the Dauphin spinning tops is inherent in their simplicity (essentiality), at the level of aesthetics. In themselves, they are not ‘simple’ at all, being very difficult to produce spinning tops which spin so effectively and elegantly. It would be quite interesting to see these tops produced with other combinations of metals and, especially, with a variety of bearing balls, for example, in ruby, tungsten carbide, ceramic, and sapphire. Probably such implementations would lead to an increase in price, but it might be worth. All in all, excellent spinning tops. Unfortunately, no way to purchase the Dauphin model 3, because it has already been sold out for some time, by now.

The Dauphin trio were my first top purchases, in January 2022. The balance and weighting felt excellent from the start, even as a beginner I could tell the quality was there, easy to spin, 15+ minute spins no problem just starting out. Today though, the incredible balance in the Dauphin 1 became infinitely more evident when I witnessed the top at a stop from my last spin standing straight upright, balanced on its tip on a glass spin station, not moving. Pictures, video and witnesses to prove it, this top came to a stop and was so smooth and balanced, it did not fall over. I left it on my desk still standing, hours later. Precision Turning is an understatement, this is incredible workmanship. I’m totally impressed.

The Dauphin III is my second Scovie top (first was Cahaba IV). The Dauphin amazing! So glad I got it. The design and craftmanship is sleek, and it spins very smoothly. I’m pretty sure I got close to 7 minutes with a mediocre spin, so I’m excited to keep practicing and see what else this top can do.
